Interest in Greek olive oil and wine is growing in South Korea according to reports. Nevertheless the Greek embassy in Seoul states that coordinated effort is needed for the organized promotion and emergence of the Greek food products in the Korean Market.
In specific reports state that 'due to the efforts of two importing businesses (Hellenic Wines και Greek Wine Center), the Korean market has a variety of wines and food products of approximately 20 different greek businesses.
Exports to South Korea are yet limited, but they doubled in 2014 and increased further in 2015.
For 2016 Greece is planning a more structured plan to promote and advertise the Greek food products, including wine and olive oil (using seminars, participation in expos, ads in the media etc.). This year the most important event is the Seoul International Wine & Spirits Expo (www.siwse.com), in Seoul in 21 to 23 April 2016.
What is more interesting is that until now import tax for extra virgin olive oil are set to 1.3%, but plan is in 2016 to be withdrawn and exports to South Korea are expected to increase.
